The Mont-Blanc range offers a lot of  high mountain routes for beginners, intermediates or advanced.

If you are a complete beginner, before your first high mountain way, it’s very important to do one day of Glacier trekking ( to learn to walk with crampons) and one day of climbing school (to learn how to use the ropes and to have a first lesson of climbing).

This can be combined as a long-day  with glacier hike in the morning and climbing school in the afternoon.

After this preparation, you will be ready to enjoy your first high mountain way!

HIGH MOUNTAIN  WAYS

for beginners

MONT BLANC BY THE TRAVERSE

 ( The 3 Mont Blanc route )

Day 1: Leave Chamonix (1000m). Take the Midi lift (3842m) and walk to the Cosmiques hut (30min) to spend the night.

Day 2: Leave the hut about 02h00. Climb to the shoulder of Mt Blanc du Tacul and then the Col du Mt Maudit (under Mt Maudit)(4345m). Then continue to the summit of Mont Blanc. 6 hours in total. Descend by the Gouter Ridge, the Gouter hut and Les Houches.  This is a little bit more technical than the Normal Route.

To improve your chances of success we strongly advise you to do a "Mt Blanc training course" which gives you 3 or 4 days of acclimatization and technical preparation before the 2 day ascent.

Gear: Mountaineering Shoes, Ice Picks, Helmet, Crampons.

Mountain guide hire: 850€ (up to 2 persons)

USEFUL INFORMATION:

Prices : The cost of the ascent is about the same, whichever route is taken. There is just a slight difference due to different cable-car charges.

Best times: From June to September but avoiding 15 July - 15 August as there are too many climbers during the peak holiday period. You need to book early so that places can be reserved for you in the very busy mountain huts.(If you book late the hut will be full and you'll end up sleeping on or under the dining tables !).

Your climbing partner: It's best if you both have, more or less, the same level of fitness. Your guide will of course set a pace suitable for the slowest person.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW!

Fares : the fares (to be divided between the 2 clients if this is the case) include :

- the Guide services

- transport by minivan

- safety gear for everyone

You need to add the related expenses (according to the situation : lifts, personal gear rental, nights at the hut). Cable car and shelter night for the guide are also at the client's expense.

Important : the price is owed wether the client reaches the summit or not. Exception : if the Guide decides to renounce due to bad weather or terrain conditions threatening the safety, a discount is given according to the reached height.

Your trekking partner: it is obvious that you should choose a partner that has the same physical strength and technique as you, the Guide will adapt to the lowest level, as a consequence there is sometimes no other choice than giving up before reaching the summit.
